Scott Fisher is a staff scientist at the Gemini Observatory. His first science job was while he was an exchange student in Germany where he worked in high-energy physics. Upon returning he entered school at the University of Florida to study physics. After taking an astronomy class for fun he discovered that it was his true calling and stayed at UF for graduate school. He received his PhD from the University of Florida in 2001. While at UF he helped build an infrared camera (named OSCIR) that has been used on five major telescopes around the world. Scott's main research interests are circumstellar disks, the center of the Milky Way, and building instruments. |
