Michihiro Takami

I am a support astronomer at Subaru. I spent most of my life in Tokyo, and I lived in England for six years for an astronomy job, then I moved to Hilo about a year ago for this job. My main task here is to help visiting astronomers with their observations, and also maintain and improve the observing instruments. I also conduct my own research, trying to understand how stars and planets are born, and observing young stars at Subaru and other telescopes.

When not working at Subaru, I play Tahitian drums, ukulele, and guitar. If you go to the downtown Hilo in Tuesday or Thursday evening, you can hopefully hear Tahitian drums and songs... it's us! I also enjoy swimming and hiking on weekends. See you in your classroom!
