WANTED:

Journey Scientists

The Journey through the Universe team (Journey Team) is looking for Journey Scientists - scientists willing to visit local schools to share their enthusiasm for science and inspire Hawaii's youth to pursue their curiosity about the physical world and perhaps even a scientific career.

The Journey Team is a partnership of the Department of Education, several astronomical observatories, community supporters, and the Carl Sagan Center for Earth and Space Science Education to bring space science into schools and other education venues in the community. The Hawaii team, currently centered in Hilo, is one of ten teams in the United States receiving support from the Sagan Center.

Last year's program enjoyed a large amount of support in the forms of positive feedback from students and teachers, and generous donations of time, money, and other resources from the community. This year, we hope to have an even greater impact by visiting a larger number of classrooms and encouraging teachers and local Journey Scientists to form partnerships that can last throughout the year.

This year we also expect to see some national news coverage, as our Journey Week will be the kickoff event for the new Carl Sagan Center for Earth and Space Science Education.

If you are interested in becoming a Journey Scientist, please contact Catherine Ishida at 934-5086 or cat@subaru.naoj.org.

If you are able to help recruit Journey Scientists, we have a recruitment flyer (PDF 952 KB). Thank you for your help!
